Q: what different religions celebrate christmas?
my daughter has to design 2 different christmas cards with a religious theme....the first one shes done a christian card, but what other religion celebrates christmas? Jews dont celebrate it, buddhists dont, hindus dont, muslims dont.....im really stuck, helpppp!!!
A: Dear
Muslims have reason to respect the days Prophet Jesus was born and the day he die and the day he shall be raised upto life again.
Reason is; there is a Verse in Holy Book Quran about it in the chapter Mariam peace be on her.
Holy Book Quran, 19:33. And Peace be on me (Jesus Eisa) the day I was born and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised upto life again.
So your daughter can post this religious theme on her card for Muslims.
Q: christmas cards... what are some good things to write in them?
please just somthing short and simple but also somthing religious would be nice too
A: I like to use "may you have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year".
If you're looking for something religious you could say "Merry Christmas and may God be with you this coming New Year".
Q: christmas cards............?
okay i know he could care less about a card but i'm sending money to a friend so I figure I'll give him a card too. I've already made it but have no idea what to write in it. We've been friends for three years, i just moved away, and he just asked me to be his gf (i no crazy right!?) so anyways we are still kinda friends but kinda not like if I were still with him then we'd be more boyfriend girlfriend but i'm not so it's like we're still friends.... anyway so umm what's something I could write in it that doesn't sound corny to a 13 year old guy? religious or non-religious it doesn't matter. please help!
it can't be TOTALLY friendly!!! I don't want it to say friends or anythign!!!! that would be weird considering he just asked me to be his gf!
A: May the Christmas spirit be with you even when I cannot be!
Hope you're having a great Christmas...Happy Holidays, I miss you!
Q: Not celebrating Christmas what should we do?
Me & my partner don't celebrate Christmas (this has been for some years now).
We aren't Christians and feel that it's hypocritical to celebrate when we don't believe in the core concepts behind it.
Our families feel differently, they aren't overly religious but feel it's more cultural than religious and think we're being silly not celebrating.
We have asked them not to give us presents as we don't want to acknowledge it at all but they refuse and get us things anyway. They also ignore the fact we don't want to celebrate Christmas by giving us Christmas cards and santa/religious presents etc.
As a result, we have had to continue buying presents for them, but as we are trying to push home not celebrating Christmas we've given them "new year" presents and opened ours on new years day instead. This is more to keep them happy than anything else. BUT we don't want to do this this year. We have to accept they won't stop getting us presents, and that we will have to still get them but we aren't going to open presents on new years day this year. We though we'd just pick a random day and call it "present day". But that means we can't get cards- what should we do about this?
We would much rather they acknowledged our views but they refuse so what should we do?
We can't afford to go away and aren't scrooges or grumps at all. In fact, we're the happiest people I know.
We spend more time with our parents etc. than any of my siblings so we do spend plenty of time with them all the year so it wouldn't be like we're not seeing our family.
Also, I'm not American, I'm English!
A: I applaud you. I am a Christian and celebrate the birth of my Lord and Savior, and I think it would be most hypocritical of me to simulate the gift-giving to the Christ child by giving gifts to those I love if I weren't a Christian. I am so happy to see someone admitting they aren't a Christian and not using a Christian holiday to get and give material stuff. I guess you have no choice but to take time off work for it since your company likely closes for it, but at least you are not partaking in this overly materialistic "version" of Christmas. Stand up for your beliefs; I stand up for mine and even though we disgree on it, I admire you for sticking to it. I despise hypocrisy. If your parents can't stop giving you gifts, accept them and keep them for later. I am sorry they don't respect your wishes.
Q: If everyone in Britain is sick of Political Correctness and wants to reclaim their Freedom of Speech,?
why is there no mainstream political party or forthright politician supporting them? I'd vote for anyone who wanted to end all the PC nonsense. At the moment, all I can think of doing in the next election is spoiling my ballot. You can't even have a religious Christmas card on your desk at work, for goodness' sake, in case someone takes offense! Even most of the ethnic minorities don't support it and personally, I think it's patronising to them as well as offensive to us! There is even a law which has recently been passed which states that you can be arrested for wearing / saying something which can be subjectively construed as offensive. I am offended by burkhas and what they symbolise, but I am pretty sure that MY concern wouldn't be enforced. If I wore a t-shirt, however, which said "I find burkas offensive", you can bet your arse I'd get arrested!
The whole country's gone mad for the sake of a few nutters who want to kill us all anyway and the tofu-muchers who work in the council!
A: Of course your right, 99% of the country thinks you're right, but it's that 1% that thinks it knows best that is causing all this. The BNP is the only mainstream party opposed to such views, but never vote for them on account of their being racist. The best option is the Tories, who are much less PC than Labour and the LibDems.
There was a pub with the word 'pig' or 'pork' in it's name (I can't remember which), near to a mosque, which was forces to change it's name because Muslims might find it offensive.
Notice, they never said 'Muslims 'HAVE FOUND' or 'FIND' it offensive, it's always the assumption that they might. That's ridiculous, I'm all for tolerance, but you can't come to a country and complain that that country's culture/customs or the way it behaves doesn't suit you, and almost none of them do. If they don't like it they're under no obligation to stay. The authorities should realise this.
If they'd have thought about it, no reasonable person would have been offended by the pubs name. Anyone who did should shut up and get used to the country he or his family came to live in, or get out.
PC is terrible in every way. It is an affront on freedom of speech for starters. The politicians use it to try to dictate the way we act and think. Tony Blair and his labour cabinet, for instance, openly hate England. Since they came to power, the preposterous idea that the English flag and being proud of England is racist has come to the surface. Blair himself said 'there is no such country as England'. On the other hand, the Scottish, Welsh or Irish flags and national identities are openly encouraged. That's discrimination, but I'm getting sidetracked now.
The problem is PC again. The point is they're using it to try to force political opinions down out throats, as can be seen in the way England is now considered unPC. Of course, sensibly, anyone who were to come to a country and subsequently claim that countries flag, culture or national identity offended them ought to get the hell out. The authorities shouldn't respect opinions that fly in the face of reason
The reasons no mainstream political parties oppose it, is because they'd immediately be denounced as racist, and compared to the BNP. It's unfortunate that the government we have now would do exactly that to anyone who dares oppose it.
The other problem is the gov thinks it knows best, and knows what will offend people. Of course, they couldn't have it so that there was a tiny chance someone could be offended could they?! It's a pity then only care about the minorities, I think it's that they fear being called racist themselves, and gone into overdrive to prove otherwise, ignoring the majority in the process.
Q: Is this true or false about American laws and christianity?
From a website:
"Heathen and Communist nations have laws against reading the Bible or having prayer in public schools, but did you know that God, the Bible, prayer and witnessing are ALSO BANNED and OUTLAWED on the schools and campuses of so-called "Christian" AMERICA! This is clearly a wilful rejection of the laws of God! On many of the same campuses and universities where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is illegal, accredited courses in the OCCULT, Hinduism and WITCHCRAFT are available to interested students!"
Furthermore, in "Christian" America, it is now ILLEGAL to celebrate CHRISTMAS, the birth of Christ, in public schools, or even to have a nativity scene on any public property! Even the giving of religious CHRISTMAS CARDS to classmates is against the law!
I am British so I am curious to know the truth about this from you Americans.
I am none the wiser with some saying true and some saying false. Can the ones who say it is true back it up with examples please?
A: Almost all statements are incorrect.
However, in public schools it is against the law for the teachers to lead prayers during school hours. Students are free to pray or read Scriptures during their time.
Q: Looking for holliday cards (?overseas) They show different christmas scenes with some type of bark. (?banana).
The cards are very rare and unique. The tree barks stands out from other cards. The inside of the card has a religious greeting on it. I have been looking for this set of holiday cards for 2 years now. I know there is a website address on the back of each card. I just can not recall were I ordered them from. Please help me!!!!!
This is an update on my earlier question... I found the website that has these cards. Search "Food of the poor". I ordered my cards today. Thanks to all.
A: You got your answers but here is an article with a few tips on:
'How to purchase Christmas greeting cards on the net?'
http://gift-ideas.christmasgifts.net/Christmas-Greeting-Cards.php
Merry Christmas!
Q: Why so much bickering and anger?
We have Santa's that can't say "ho ho ho".
We have people wondering how to greet each other and people getting mad if they don't get the greeting they want.
We have people not sure if its ok to send a religious Christmas card to a non-beleiver.
I mean really people...is it that difficult to wish each other well? Is there a real need to take offense at anything??
In this month there is Ramadan, Diwali, Kwanzaa, Haunakha, Winter Solstice (Yule) and Christmas (treated as secular and religious). All of these religions promote peace and love to be spread amongst each other, regardless if we follow the same religious path. WHY then are we so focused on being angry and trying to "take control" of a day or month?
So my real question is....what are YOU going to do this holiday season to spread peace and love?
My answer: I am buying some clothes for a child that I got off the Christmas Tree at the Unitarian Universalist Church so that child can have clothes and a gift under the tree. I am also going to be working at a homeless shelter so those people can have a warm and loving holiday.
Oh and may you all have a wonderful holiday season!
A: I will do the same things I do all year round. I am not wealthy, nor am I extremely religious, but when opportunity presents, I share what little I have in the ways of kindness, knowledge, understanding, appreciation and love. These are open to anyone in need. Smiles and hugs are free and are worth more than money or gifts. They are also universally acceptable and politically correct.
My Yahoo Answers friends enrich my life greatly, and for all of you, I wish a year of glad tidings and good will!
Q: ACLU campaign against?
why are Christians sending me e mail requesting I try to sabotoge ACLU by sending religious Christmas card to them?
I want to know the motive why they are against ACLU
A: Because as long as they can get rid of one 'right' that they don't like, they don't care about all the other rights they and we will lose! Apparently the loss of those is less important...sick.
Q: Are you going to send your Christmas card to the ACLU?
The address is:
125 Broad St.
18th floor
New York, NY 10004
It's worth the 17 cents to freeze their operation, because they will be opening them all looking for a donation.
Send a nice religious one, like with the navity on it or something.
Who knows, maybe they will have a change of heart!!
Also, if you are Christian, why would you send a card with "Happy Holidays" on it? To a jewish friend, I send a jewish card, etc.....
A: The ACLU, good idea, I will.
Q: Christmas card greeting?
Im making my Christmas cards now. They are for all family and friends. Some are not religious, or not Christian. What would be a good greeting? I dont like the tired "Happy Holidays". I was thinking "Have a Magical Holiday", do you like that? Or, is it ok to write "Merry Christmas" since Christmas is also a secular holiday (Santa, etc.)?
Clarification: Some friends are Jewish. Some friends and family may not be religious. I just want to make one version of the card, thats why I need a greeting that covers everyone.
A: I like magical holiday and might use that myself.thanks
