Q: Is New York City too broke to take down the Christmas decorations?
I live in Brooklyn, it's mid February and there's still Christmas decorations on the streets that the city put up. Is NYC too broke to spend money to take them down? If yes, then its a good idea because it better to leave the decorations rather than cut funding from schools.

A: lol, I noticed them too in Manhattan yesterday, ironically just a block off of Times Square. Makes me wonder, but theyre only snowflakes and its still winter...

Q: where can I buy retro style Christmas decorations?
I really want some old fashioned tissue Christmas decorations. Both the long garlands and the honeycomb style eg candles, bells etc. Prices are going through the roof on e bay. Is there anywhere in the uk that sell them, either genuine 50's ones or replicas. (not the metallic ones, only paper ones) Thankyou.

A: Since you have specified the UK, here are sites where you can buy replicas, but they are not cheap either. http://www.christmastimeuk.com/ctuktest/browse.php?action=view&cat_id=28 http://www.christmastimeuk.com/themes08.php?category=Christmas-Paper-Decorations&cat=10304 http://www.partycheap.com/Christmas_Tissue_Decorations_s/249.htm http://www.partypacks.co.uk/spage.asp?urx=t:Paper+Decorations;cd:pg;dt:PaperDec; You would only find authentic ones on second hand market stalls and retro stores. They have acquired rarity value because they spoilt easily and most people discarded them when they were damaged or dirtied. The same applies to authentic blown glass decorations that now cost a fortune. One rarely sees that sort of thing in charity shops. Many have gone all trendy and most now limit themselves to nearly new goods, rejecting articles that they consider unappealing and that will not bring money because soiled or unfashionable. It is not the time of the year for car boot sales, which might yield something, but may be a covered antique market might. There are other sites but they are in the USA and charge in dollars. Shipping would be extra and British customs also charge duty on arrival. I bought some ornaments last year and the custom charge added another twenty pounds to the overall cost even though they were second hand and had originally been made in Europe.

Q: How are you baby-proofing your house with all the Christmas Decorations out?
This past weekend my daughter, 20 months, pulled her stocking off the mantel and the stocking holder hit her in the head, large bump and cut but she's ok! So that incident bought to me this question...how are you baby-proofing your home now that all the Christmas Decorations are out?

A: Ouch!! Everything is out of our 9 month olds reach. We normally put the tree up in the living room but decided on the dining room this year (our house is pretty open so you can see it from the living room and kitchen). We did that b/c we can put the baby gates up in that room to keep him away from it. My mom told me I should just enforce the word no and carry on as normal. It has obviously been a while since she had a 9 month old!!!!!!!

Q: When should i start hanging up my Christmas Decorations?
I just wanted to know when i should start hanging up my christmas decorations 10 points=best answer thanks so muchh

A: You should start now. I put them up with my mom yesterday. I always look forward to it every year. It's so fun. We play Christmas music for the first time and we actually bond while doing it - which is what we need considering we rarely get along. But I love it. Put them up now! Actually, have somebody do it with you. It can be such an awsome tradition. :D

Q: Is it to early for me to start putting up Christmas decorations?
I just love Christmas and got most of my Christmas decorations out of the attic yesterday. I want to put them up, but Thanksgiving hasn't happened yet. I usually wait until Thanksgiving evening to put up the decorations. Is it too early?

A: if you want your house to feel festive put up some garland, and poinsettia, but not the tree yet, because i think the house should be a little festive for thanksgiving , thats what i did and its starting to make me feel more excited about thanksgiving than i was.

Q: Is it too early to put up Christmas decorations?
This my first Christmas living with my husband, and I am a Christmas fanatic. I love it. We are planning on putting up our tree next Thursday (November 13th) but... would it be too soon to put other decorations up today? I just want to get as much use out of them as I can, and I know the "norm" is the day after Thanksgiving... But I can't possibly wait that long. Thanks!

A: It's your home, do as you please.

Q: Is there any stores or websites that sell discount or low priced Christmas decorations?
I would like to go all out a little more, but all the Christmas decorations are always so EXPENSIVE!!!

A: Big Lots!!! Great selection and great prices, especially on lights, ornaments and stockings.

Q: Anyone start putting up christmas decorations yet?
Im not because i will be at Disney World for christmas!!! Did you put up decorations yet? What are you doing for christmas?

A: YES we always start the day after thanksgiving or the second day after. and I am going to beat both of my grandparents houses for Christmas and one house I am going to cross country ski on there lake..~Hope you have good holidays Morgan

Q: What are indoor Christmas decorations like in the United Kingdom?
Are decorations any different in England than in Scotland? I've read that the Scots didn't officially celebrate Christmas until the 1950s and that they still make more of New Year's, or Hogmanay, than Christmas.

A: No decorations are the same. We've always celebrated Christmas in Scotland just like other countries do, but you are right, Hogmanay is a far more popular ceelbration during this period than Christmas is.

Q: Who has taken down their Christmas decorations?
I normally put up my Christmas decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving and leave them up until January 1st. When do most of you take yours down?

A: I use the same schedule and am happy to report that mine are all down and put away and all my Valentine's day decorations are now out. I know some people will wait until after the 6th for Epiphany and that's fine with me if that's their belief.

Q: What was the longest you've ever kept your Christmas Decorations up?
I don't mean the year round people. I think the latest I've put all my Christmas decorations away is Valentine's Day (Feb 14). Anyone else want to share their Holiday procrastination?

A: I left a wreath on my door until May once...I was really depressed and just didn't give a flip...

Q: where can i buy solar powered christmas decorations?

Q: What time of year should you have to take down Christmas decorations?
I have a neighbor who still has theirs up. Should I write a note or talk to them in person? It looks tacky to me to have Christmas decorations up in March. Eightieschick- I should mention that this isn't the biggest problem in my life, but I do take pride in my neighborhood. These neighbors are renters and everyone else on the cul de sac owns their own home. Needless to say, they treat the property with the mentality of a tenant and not an owner. The Christmas decorations are in addition to screens hanging off the window, trash and debris in their front yard, and broken mini-blinds on windows that face the street. You probably would understand if you took pride in your home as well. I do not appreciate your flippant answer.

A: My Swedish ex-husband used to say you put them up on Christmas Eve and took them down on 20th day Knute which is January 14th, the 20th day after Christmas. We used to have a big party then, lots of food, demolish and eat the gingerbread house. Good times. There's a reason more and more neighborhoods in America are forming homeowner associations. There are some drawbacks, but there are more benefits, such as retained property values. We live in a democracy and some of us take pride in where we live. Though I see nothing wrong with keeping Christmas decorations up year round, the fallen screens and unkempt yard tell me that it's just plain laziness that's the cause in this case. Have you thought of getting together with your neighbors and writing to the property owner? There may also be city ordinances covering some of the problems such as the unkempt yard, broken screens, etc. And, of course, you _can_ ask if they need help, as a way of bringing to their attention that their yard is an eyesore. Unfortunately, you say they're renters and as renters, they're only responsible for what's defined in their lease so contacting the homeowner is probably your best bet.

Q: Why are so many people not having christmas decorations this year?
Here in my small town only 2 to 3 out of 5 people have decorations up for christmas...is this like it in your town? Why has the number of them decreased?

A: alot of people are out of the Christmas spirit because of financial issues. plus putting lights up just makes your electric bill sky rocket.
