Q: How can I create decor space in my home?
I have a space on my kitchen counter next to the stove with no electrical sockets. i have a makeshift entertainment center that i have all my games, movies,tv ext...all on this dinning room table.i have an empty space where a phone table should go,and nothing there, but it is high traffic.my bathroom only has a sink,no counter, and my bedroom has only a dresser with all of my makeup on top. this is just a renter, but im looking to decorate for the holidays and i have no space anywhere! well i have the space just not the shelving, tables, ext... what cheap creative ways can i put the christmas spirit in my home?

A: It's really hard to envision all this without pictures but how about hanging Christmas decorations? You can also get a small storage for your bathroom or kitchen and take some stuff off counters to decorate for various occasions. Most the stuff can be found at walmart, sears or even moving sales or second hand stores. All you'd need would be paint and you can decorate however you like after :) http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_09648068000P?vName=For+the+Home&cName=Bath&sName=Furniture+%26+Storage http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00892400000P?vName=For+the+Home&cName=Bath&sName=Furniture+%26+Storage http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_09664932000P?vName=For+the+Home&cName=Bath&sName=Furniture+%26+Storage

Q: When is the best time to put up Christmas decorations mostly indoors?
I have seen alot of people putting up christmas stuff outside of their homes the day after Halloween? I feel thats alittle to early but what time should you start just for indoor decor?

A: I honestly feel it is up to the person. Had I felt like it, I would have started after Halloween too, but it looks like this year it will be after Thanksgiving. However, last year, my yard and one of my indoor Christmas trees (I put up 3) were decorated the week before Thanksgiving! I think the fact that stores, malls, city streets etc put holiday decor up so early has played a part in the mind set of individuals decorating early these days as well. I have a number of really nice and expensive decorations that I like to display and 3 weeks of being able to enjoy it doesn't get it for me! LOL I think most people have that attitude; especially if you believe in the superstition that they must be taken down before New Years (which I do not believe in) Ultimately, to each his own! It's a very festive time of year, the lights, the mood, etc are exciting and brighten most people's holidays.

Q: How much should I charge a person when I decorate the inside of a house for Christmas?
The christmas tree, stair case, entrance, den, colums, Flower arrangments, wreths for doors, 6" feet garland with ligths and elaborate decor, center pieces how much do I charge? I do each home different. I personlize items. I use some of their itmes and I add to what they have. On one house I spent 2 months making decorations and 10 hours at the house putting every thing in place.

A: As a crafter, I never include my time spent making an object, in the price. I usually double or triple the cost of the supplies needed. As far as the work you do actually putting the decorations in place, if you work in an efficient, timely manner, I would say you deserve an hourly rate for that time. You would have to research what the average hourly wage is in your area for other home help workers....for instance cleaning. As you become more "in demand", of course, your price will go up. Good luck on the venture!

Q: Is there something I can use to hang temporary decor on my outside stucco wall?
I would like to hang some small plastic snowflakes on the outside of my home but the wall is all stucco. I've been told that I have to drill holes and stuff, this is for a temporary decor, I dont want holes. Does anyone have any great ideas? HELP its almost Christmas.

A: i would buy mighty putty. you don't have to get it off television. wal-mart and bed bath beyond sells it too. and i don't think its that expensive. it comes with three tubes of putty. and it really works. even though i haven't tried the 18-wheeler experiment yet.lol

Q: I was given pants for a Christmas present, what should I do with them?
A.) cut them up and use them as cleaning cloths. Q.) hang them above my house door as some Home Decor B65.) Sell them WD40.) wear them and play the SEXophone F5') Other.

A: you could put them on so I don't have to look at your package anymore!!!

Q: House with Chrstmas decor STILL UP IN MARCH!!!?
Our new neihgbors moved in at Christmas '06.How do we ask them to take it down without creating enemies instead of neighbors? They are not at home much and we don't know them very well. I don't want a new enemy. I just want thier Christmas decor to come down before Christmas '07!!!!

A: Unless your neighborhood has a law or rule about this, you can't make them take the decorations down. You may ask them to if it annoys you that much, but they have a right to leave them up if they desire...annoying as that may be. I agree it looks tacky when people leave holiday decorations/lights up well past the holiday but it's their business and if you start trying to tell your neighbors how their property should look, they may begin to return the favor and things tend to go downhill from there. In other words, pick your battles...or perhaps (since you mentioned they aren't home much) offer to take the stuff down for them, and leave it in an area they designate.

Q: christmas gift ideas?
I am an artist for a living and I want to give out homemade Christmas gifts this year, which I think are more personal than store-bought gifts. I already have plans for most of the people on my list: jewelry, clothing, home décor, etc. The two people on my list that I can’t think of what to make for are my dad and my boyfriend. Help?

A: How about pillowcases made with specialty fabric, like with remote controls or fish or something on them. You can get a yard of fabric for about $7 and that's all you need. there's directions here, http://kidoozy.com/blog/?p=270

I need a unique christmas present for 75 yr young Mom that has everything! HELP!!!? My Mom has all the perfumes, powders, nic nacky crap that she can possibly handle. I am stumped, we always get bath & body crap or some home decor every year...........I want to do something so memorable and so special. Does anyone have any ideas? A: If you could find a picture of her when she was 25 years old , when she was 50 years and when she is 75 , put them together in one big picture frame ( consult a person that can place the three picture nicely in one big frame like Corel draw). It will be nice for your mama to see herself in different era of her long and beatiful life. Please give your mama a big hug for me. Mabuhay !

Q: Christmas gifts for guys???
Now granted I've only known this guy 6 days, I met him when I was out with my girlfriends Friday night. He's a great guy, we've been spending a lot of time together since, and went out to dinner last night. I'd like to get him something for Christmas. He just moved in to a new house, and everything he has for his house is still in storage. My thing is, I don't want to get something too big, or too lovey dovey. We aren't serious yet, but we do like each other and enjoy spending time together. What can I get him that won't scare him away, but will allow for us to spend more time together? Any ideas? He has a harley and a crotch rocket, he's into bikes, 4-wheeling, quadding, camping, fishing, etc. He likes contemporary art, home decor? I just need ideas! Please thanks! Talk about last minute I'm going shopping for xmas gifts tonight! HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!

A: get him a gift certificate to a bike shop or a nice jacket or pair of shoes

Q: What should I get my mother-in-law for Christmas?
I don't have any ideas of what to get my mother-in-law for Christmas and my hubby is no help in the idea department. My mother-in-law is in her 60's and she doesn't really wear jewelry (I did get her a necklace one year) and I don't want to buy her clothes (she is a jeans and t-shirt type and I have bought her clothes in the past). Last year I got her a really nice blanket, books to read, lotion, slippers, etc. It doesn't seem like she is in need of anything. She likes hummingbirds, but I have bought her all sorts of stuff with hummingbirds on it in the past, a robe, home decor, a pin, etc. I just don't have any ideas...I have gotten her gift cards in the past, but my hubby doesn't want me to get her one. I don't see what's wrong with a gift card - I like them. At least you can get what you want with it. She also likes puzzles, but I have gotten her those before. I think she has a massive supply of them by now. Any ideas?

A: Get her a foot spa. Those things are awesome. The kind with the little massaging jets. I don't know anyone who doesn't love those things.... unless she thinks you are trying to tell her that her feet stink or something! lol At least it's something different!

Q: I need ideas for either a Christmas or New Year's Wedding. Attire, but more especially food and decor.?
An intimate affair is planned at home and the living room is still bare of furnishings. I am considering renting round tables for that room and letting the place settings be the ceremony and receptions seating. What do you think?

A: I think that you should do whatever you want for your wedding. Your dress could be white with a colored trim or accent to celebrate the holiday while still looking like a tradtional dress. Try adding a winter fabric, maybe at the neckline, like velvet, to look more festive. Your decorations should reflect that it's a wedding first and a holiday second. Going overboard with the holiday look may seem like it's more of a Christmas party than a wedding. Try sticking to white tableclothes and add your colors/decorations as centerpieces. Have only a few touches of the season, you are celebrating the wedding not the holiday. Christmas Colors: White Red Green Silver Gold New Years Colors: Blue White Silver Gold Metallics (any color) Black Winter Fabrics: Velvet Faux Fur Lace Winter Flowers & Plants: Holly Poinsettia Evergreens Amaryllis Roses (always a classic) Paperwhites Berries Christmas Decor: Angles Bells Ornament balls Candy Canes Stars Nativity Santa Tinsel Wreaths New Years Decor: Confetti Horns Blow-outs Noisemakers Champagne (already in a wedding theme anyway) Stars General Winter Decor: Snowflakes Icicles Snowman Pine cones I would stick with a more winter generalized theme. Some people don't celebrate the holidays the same way, so a winter wonderland in your living room may come off better than a Christmas celebration or a New Years party. Your food can be anything you want. Since it's a small event, try a carving station with traditional holiday meats - ham and/or turkey. Then add some traditional and non-traditional side dishes so that there is plenty of variety without having a full holiday spread. The food should be hot and more filling, light finger foods should only be offered as an option, not the meal. Soups, hot cider, hot chocolate, warm bread/rolls are another thing to think about adding. You could even have winter shaped cookies. If you choose to have a cake, then maybe decorate it in the same winter theme. Snowflakes around the edges could look nice. Mainly, have fun and do what you and your fiance what.

I am stumped, we always get bath & body crap or some home decor every year...........I want to do something so memorable and so special. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you ahead of time for your help..................

A: What can you possibly give to a person who has everything? None. Give her a little more of your time... & express your love & how much you appreciate her being a friend, a mentor and a mother. That's a gift you can't find hanging anywhere in a store! * good luck!

Q: looking for a christmas present...?
My friend is 24 (female) and I really have no clue what to get her. Her birthday was a week ago and I gave her candles, so I can't give her that, but I'm thinking a budget of $50? Electronics or home decor is good...any ideas?

A: spa certificate...ALL girls LOVE it!

Q: Can you help me stop spending $$$$?
Any tips. We recently moved, and when we had the money, we bought new furniture, sheets, and decor for our new home. Christmas came, and I spent more money on gifts, etc. Now, I am still spending. I feel like I "need" a new purse, new pajamas, new cologne - all the things I didn't get at Christmas I think. I am trying to make our life perfect, and have all the things we need, or deserve. At least that is my mentality. How do I stop this cycle? I have had issues in the past (a long time ago) with credit, and learned my lesson. I am paying for all of this with cash, but we need to start saving!!! We both need a retirement plan! I spend, and then feel guilty and nervous about money (due to my past experience), but keep doing it once the feeling passes. I need advice before the bank account dwindles more! Any tips would be good.

A: I know exactly how you feel. You work hard, so you should have everything you want, right? I wish it worked that way. We recently bought our first house. It's quite nice for our area. Now my husband wants a new truck, 4 wheelers, a boat and all these things. I remind him that he makes great money. I also remind him that we've chosen to spend the money on our home. Most people can't have all of the toys and the house, too. Also, when you see other people who appear to be living the high life, just remind yourself of all of the debt they're probably in. Think of how miserable they must be not having any money in the bank and probably charging groceries. Now does it seem so glamorous? Also think of how good it feels to know that when you retire, you'll be able to support yourself. Having an emergency fund and a 401(k) are 2 of the best feelings in the world. Remind yourself of that the next time you feel the urge. Good luck!!

Q: Do you like homes that have mix matched x-mas outdoor decor?
you know those houses where the owners got either drunk on eggnog and went bananas throwing lights everywhere and the end result is like the spirit of christmas barfed all over their property,,,,i love it lol :)

A: haha yes i agree. i think decorations like that are more spirited and homey -- i hate those overly pretentious all-white "elegant" decorations with no fun or ridiculous elements thrown in. you know, the recent trend of having just the one string of white icicle lights up? gimme a break and have some fun with it! lol
