A: One great idea is to make jam, preserves, pickles, chutney or any other kind of treat you prefer and jar it. Decorate the jar with a beautiful Christmas ribbon and a personalized gift tag and it becomes a wonderful gift for someone special. If your family and friends enjoy wine you can make your own batch and put personalized labels on the bottles. Add a ribbon or bow for an added touch.
Gift baskets are another way to put together personalized gifts for friends and family. Is there a coffee lover amongst you? Place packets of gourmet grounds, cinnamon stir sticks, a beautiful mug, and coupons for free coffee at their favorite coffee shop in a basket and tie a beautiful bow on the handle. A chocoholic can be made very happy by putting packets of cocoa, chocolate kisses and homemade chocolate chip cookies in a basket just for them. Other basket ideas can include fruit baskets or beauty baskets filled with cosmetics or bathing items. You can even put together a sports basket for the athlete in your life. Put a sports magazine, a T-shirt from their favorite team and tickets for an upcoming game into the basket. Decorate it by tying ribbons in their favorite teams' colors onto the handle.
Another idea is to make your own Christmas cards by buying plain white stock cards and decorating them with paint, glitter or photos to personalize each one. You can also cut pieces from old Christmas cards to glue onto yours for a professional touch.

Q: What was/is the best homemade Christmas gift that you either made or received?
I am trying to come up with a more personal and non-expensive way to celebrate Christmas this year, and I need some ideas on what kind of homemade gifts I can make for my family, friends and boyfriend! Any Suggestions?!?!
A: Well, I love origami, and for Christmas, I folded 1,000 little puffy stars and put them in a heart shaped jar and gave them to my boyfriend. The 1000 stars is supposed to be "a token of affection." The stars were different sized and different colors. Some every had little messages, such as "I <3 U" on them. He loved them. :) Of course, I baked cookies and made a card for him too.

I did a few years ago for my side of the family. I bought some Hot Wheels lowrider cars, those little figures called "Homies" and some little round mirrors. I glued the lowriders to the mirror and then posed the Homies around the cars and glued those too. By the time I was done, it looked like a mini car show. I have even had a few requests to make a few more this year. Appearently, they were a bigger hit than what I thought. It's a nice feeling to know that people really appreciate homemade gifts.

A: I often make homemade gifts. I've done counted cross stitch pictures with designs I thought the person would like. I also love to make Christmas ornaments, so when I do buy a gift I attach a Christmas ornament to the box, it's a personal touch people like. I have also made wreaths and designed my own gift baskets.
When I was a child my mother's best friend made us a homemade Christmas nativity set, she had an identical one. When I moved away from home for the first time my mother sent me the nativity and it brought back some great memories. It was so nice to have a piece of home with me at Christmas when I was so far away. I had a job in journalism at the time and wrote a column about how much this simple homemade nativity meant to me. My mother sent a copy of the column to her friend who had made it. After putting it up in her home for the past 25 years she had been considering replacing it with a fancy bought porcelain one. After reading my column she wrote me and said that she now looked at the nativity with new eyes and appreciation and wouldn't be replacing it. So I think that those homemade gifts that you take the time and energy to make can truly touch someone far more than a blender or toaster ever could.

A: Make jewelry for them! There's tons of websites for that, and you don't have to pay out a bundle (or buy from the websites that have the ideas, either!) Try Beadstyle.com, WigJig.com, Firemountaingems.com.....and buy your goods from a local bead store, or from Walmart, in the crafts section. It's fun, and you can use the skills you gain later on- I design, make and sell jewelry from home, it's great, and has a high profit margin. And you can make really knockout stuff that looks like a million $ for literally pennies! Have fun! ;)

There's everything from lighted fabric garlands and wreaths to placemats, bookmarks, and doll doorstops made out of bricks and plastic bags.
My favorite is a flower pot painted and used with a little ivy busy to hide toilet paper in the bathroom...or I suppose you could hide anything else.

i would like to make special personalised homemade gifts for three of my friends, but i dont know what to do. i would like to do it on there intrests. my best friend likes music, and another one likes music and singing and my other friend is intreseted in designing things and writing. does anyone have any ideas on what i could get them?

decorate it with wrapping paper unless its already patterend
put in little bits and bobs
for the ones that like music and singing put in a cd of their favourite music - get a blank cd and transfer itunes music onto it
and put other little things in
and for the one that likes designing etc put in nice coloured pens and crafty paper and just stuff like that

okay well, i have a couple friends who i want to give gifts, but they aren't really great friends and i have already spent over my budget between my great friends and family. Last year my boyfriend and I went on a crazy shopping spree and spent well over $2,000 on gifts for everyone in the family (both his and mine) for Christmas. We've had some financial hardships this years (getting a new apartment and a new job) and we can't afford to go all out this year. You could get some epsom salts and kosher salt & lavendar essential oil, mix 2-1 epsom-kosher 20 drops of essential oil per cup of salts, for a soothing foot soak.. package in long cellophane bags & tie with festive ribbon

sometimes at micheals or other craft stores they offer small bread tins for less than a dollar, you could make tiny banana breads, or fruitcakes.
Jellies, jams, fruit preserves are easy to gift as well.
Flavored liquors such as homemade vanilla vodka, or pepper vodka, or orange vodka
Take a vanilla bean slice down the middle, soak in vodka for 1 month, shake every day, strain.
take a potato peeler to remove the zest off of 2 oranges soak in vodka for a month skae everyday, strain
take a jalapeno pepper deseeded and julianne, soak in vodka for 2 weeks shake everyday, strain.
you could make "wine glass markers" out of craft wire (silverplated 16 gauge) round nose pliers, some beads & small trinkets, give each a set of 6
candles & soap are pretty easy to make too... it depends on how you like to craft.
