What do I do with the left over? Can I just take out the extra bulbs and hide the wire? I have the kind that if you take out bulbs, the rest stay lit. They are C9 bulbs.
They are outside on the roof of my house, I don't think that anyone can reach to stick a finger in them. If I loosen them, it will look really bad.
A: The best thing to do is save all your blown out bulbs and use them at the end. This way you protect the sockets and keep the weather out to prevent any problems later. If you don't have any blown out ones then just paint the bulbs with black finger nail polish, They don't get hot and no light shows through

Q: A question about outdoor Christmas lights?
My Christmas lights outside aren't working, and I've checked the outlet (fine), and all of the connections. I tested the lights before and they all lit up. Do you know what might be wrong with this?
A: If you have power to the outlet and no lights, you have probably overloaded the lights and blown the small fuse that is in the male plug of the lights. Generally, you can not plug more than 3 strands in series. If you do, it will overpower the fuse and cause all strands not to power up.
To test this, unplug the first set of lights and bypass them.
If it is the fuse, it is easy to replace. Most lights come with spares so if you have unopened boxes, you will find replacements.

The wall is thin mortar over cinder blocks. I worry that it will split if I use mortar nails. But tape is so ugly and doesn't always hold.
