Q: why do we put a star on the top of our christmas trees and whats the history behind it?
every year families chop down a tree, take it home, and decorate it with ornaments and flashing lights for christmas... but one thing that must not be left off is a star(angel). why do we put it up on top? where did the idea of the star come from? thanks for the help lol, and give stars... which suits this question nicely

A: It symbolizes the "Star of the East" which helped lead the Three Wise Men to Jesus' manger.

Q: What is a Crystalline Angel ornament? ?
i bought one for my mother for christmas because she wanted to replace the one she broke. She wanted a glass one. the ornament felt like plastic but the macy's seller person said it was glass. What is crystalline? Thank you

A: Crystalline normally means that it is grown. Like a calcite crystal, etc. Real "crystal" is generally lead glass and has nothing to do with mineral crystals. Please post a picture so I can give you a more specific answer.

A: it should be in the back of the book...

Q: Does Hallmark still sell decent Christmas cards?
I figure its a card store right? And Christmas is a big holiday, right? but of the hundreds of ornaments this year on display of the hundreds I only see 1 nativity one referencing Jesus. Maybe 1 more angel one with a prety vague message, and 1 with a verse about fruit of the spirit form Galatians so out of maybe 200 ornaments perhaps 3 that celebrate Christmas spiritually... does the quality of their card reflect this shallowness as well... or is the quality of the Christmas cards at Hallmark poor also? Ironically, every year the very few nativity ornaments sell out first.... go figure... msut be some Madison Avenue marketing genius at work

A: It is becoming more and more difficult to find real Christmas cards every year. They get more vague each year. I notice that the cards I receive are not Celebrating the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ but actually just a kind of Seasons Greeting type thing...might as well say "Have a nice Winter." I began noticing this in 1998, and it has steadily become harder to find good cards. If you go to a Christian book store and go early while selections are still good, you can find appropriate Christmas cards. Hallmark is at the top of my list at reducing Christmas to a seasonal holiday.

Q: What is one of your favorite Christmas symbols:???
Examples: snowman , musical instrument snowflake . ornament angel . candle wreath, poinsetta bell , reindeer tree nutcracker

A: i like the traditional christmas tree, angel and snowflake! christmas tree---- to symbolize family gatherings and festivities angel---- for the holy spiritual aspect snowflake---- because what's a christmas without snow? lol *Merry Christmas*!

Q: Christmas poll: Which way do you like better?
PART ONE: Which way do you like better to decorate a christmas tree? Tree 1: Garland in every colour, coloured blinking strings of lights, a few boxfuls of family ornaments, angel on top, TONS of presents underneath, & skirted. Tree 2: Silver & Gold cinnamon pinecones, a few Godseye's, a few clove oranges, a few peppermint sticks, a few bells, a few bows, one string of solid white lights, popcorn cranberry string, toy train underneath, nutcrackers on either side, star on top.. PART TWO: Is your Christmas "theme" more A) Santa--trips to the mall, make cookies for the big guy, Sleigh on the roof, list of presents then LOTS under the tree, ham for dinner etc. B)Jesus--Church service on Christmas Eve, manger in the yard, hardly any presents, tree stays up 'till "Epiphany", Story of Jesus plays, turkey for dinner etc. C)Victorian--caroling, fireside storytelling, each person gives each other person one present, snowsledding, goose for dinner, etc. Now...this is the hard part...you can't mix n match! Gotta choose one or the other, not both, not neither, =P.

A: I'm Jewish so the politically correct term is Hanuka Bush

Q: Christmas basket help?
I'm going to buy my grandmother and aunt matching gift baskets for Christmas next year, however they'll have different fragrances because the two women aren't very much alike. My aunt's will have an angel broach or ornament, and my grandmothers... well I haven't decided yet. I'm going to put them both in colorful baskets and include: a body mist, a big bottle of bubble bath, three bars of soap, a small bottle of bath oil, 3 bath bombs, 3 drawer sachets, a sugar scrub, shampoo/conditioner, and a body lotion. If I can, I'll probably buy a few small bottles of different perfumes [or sample sizes] and put them in their baskets, too. I don't know what type of scent I should use for either woman. My aunt is a heavy christian who loves angels, gardening, decorating, and singing. My grandmother is lively and always on the go with her constant travelling or bingo trips. I don't know what type of scents Nanny likes, but I remember my aunt liked the natural collection from Avon. Should I go with a fruity fragrance collection? Floral? Designer dupes? Junk food? Desserts? Could you make me two fragrance collections [including 3 scents] that you think an older woman would like? Cotton candy, bubble gum, angel food cake, vanilla birthday cake, banana, creamy coconut, peaches and cream, cremesicle, candy apple, strawberry shortcake, lavender, german chocolate cake, cookies and cream, magnolia, peony, gardenia, grape, blueberry, cherry pie, chocolate, mango sorbet, banana, cherry blossom, coffee, princess, almond, pumpkin spice, black berry, mint chocolate chip, sweet bea, warm vanilla sugar, and vanilla butter cream. Also, what should I put for grandma's additional gift? Scarves aren't really needed. Both of them go to Florida every winter.

A: i'm 40 and i like the sweet pea and vanailla flavors (all of them). get grandma a pretty scarf seen plenty of them at target that i adored. edit: the fashion scarf that is made out of silk or light material. not the winter one. sorry about the misunderstanding.

Q: I'm looking for a Christmas movie I once watched when I was younger, can you help?
The movie was a cartoon that depicted many christmas bulbs and other various ornaments, even a snotty blue and white angel for the top of the tree. They are upset because their "owner" forgot them in the attic and hasn't used them in a while. At some point in the movie there is a scene where somebody is blowing glass and I think at the end of the movie after the little red bulb (who I believe is called Noel or the movie is) breaks, her "soul" goes out into the world and sees how they celebrate christmas and the world gets together and sings a song. Does anyone know the name of this movie and where I can find it? http://www.toonarific.com/show_pics.php?show_id=2648 I found the movie! Thanks! Happy Christmas!

A: NOEL - TALKING CHRISTMAS BULB or Bobby Bright's Greatest Christmas Ever: The Story of the World's First Talking Christmas Tree Light Bulb. The Noel one I found at only 1 website selling movies: http://www.sell.com/23THFK.

"All I want for Christmas is you," "The Christmas Shoes," and "The Christmas Song" (chestnuts roasting on an open fire...) 4. I want for the prayers of those suffering around the world to be answered 7. I would LOVE snow on Christmas, but I'm kind of down south, so it's highly unlikely. :[[ 8. But most of my shopping is done around Thanksgiving time because I have a break from school then. 17. When I start seeing Christmas decorations. :] Merry early Christmas to you too! :)

Q: Keeping cats off of my Christmas tree?
Last year was the first Christmas that I had cats...2 of them. One is a climber and got all the way to the top of the tree and knocked the angel off. I lost more ornaments last year than ever. Can I get any ideas for keeping the cats off the tree? Thanks Mia! I was hoping that there was some scent that would distract my babies from the tree!!! I'll try citrus! Courage! I love the SSSCAT Spray!!! I wonder if I can get it at my local pet store! If not, that is a MUST BUY online!

A: First, get non-breakable ornaments so that if they do knock it over, no big deal. Second, there are aversives that aren't cruel you can set up around the tree. I'm going to give a list of them that might work. Third, make sure the cats have something to climb on that is easier, and encourage them to climb up on it by putting treats at the top. It should be at least as tall as the tree since they seem to like the tree's height. Fourth... you could always make the cats fatter. :P Joking. But really, as cats age they're less likely to climb, so don't be surprised if it doesn't happen as much this year. So, my list. 1) Cat soft-claws. This makes it so that it's harder to climb because their claws are covered by a rubber sheath. (link 1) 2) SSS-cat spray. This lovely little thing sends a burst of air that hisses and scares a lot of cats away. It's set off by a motion sensor. (link 2) 3) Scram-mats. This makes a noise if they step on it. (link 3) 4) A little alarm thing. This sets off a noise if it's moved, maybe you could put it on a lower branch or something? (link 4) 5) A little electric mat that shocks the cat. Same idea as 3 but a bit more... shocking? Ugh, bad pun. (link 5) Other ideas though. Since a cat usually has to run and then climb, then perhaps put a baby gate or something similar around the tree to interrupt their run? Possibly you could put something like double-sided carpet tape (they sell a version for pets that's safer than that) around the tree so that if they run, they get one of those on them, and that might discourage them. If you have the alternative tree for them to climb and treats up there, it all may work. Note, if you do get them an alternative tree, since they seem to like the natural branch, don't waste money on an expensive cat-tree but try to find something that uses real bark and isn't as expensive. You might even be able to make your own. I would probably try covering it with rope more than carpet. I hope some of this gives you ideas and may help. Add: This isn't forever either. After the cats get the idea of leaving the tree alone, then you can put the more expensive ornaments up again. :) It's just while you're training. There are beautiful non-breakable ornaments out there though.

Q: General Hospital- Would this Christmas episode entertain you?
It would be a non-mob related Christmas episode where everyone is just happy and content for once (granted I know this won't please everyone).... hope you enjoy, just thought it would be a fun and nice episode. It would be Elizabeth and Jason with Cameron and Jake all together in their new home by the Christmas tree and the fireplace. Jake and Cam eating popcorn and playing with toy motorcycles while Jason and Elizabeth decorate the tree. They watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas after the tree decorating and fall asleep as a family on the couch. Eventually Jason carries the boys upstairs and he and Elizabeth go to bed together (for once). Carly and Jax would be at their home with Morgan AND Michael (he wouldn't be in coma). Morgan and Michael would be hanging up their character stockings and getting the milk, cookies, and carrots ready for Santa and his reindeer. Meanwhile Carly would be taking snap shots for the Christmas album while rubbing her growing belly. Jax sneaks up behind her with mistletoe and they share a passionate loving kiss for it's almost time for their newest member of the family. Sonny works late at the coffee shop telling his workers to go home and spend time with their families while he cleans up and goes home. Alexis walks into the shop while he is cleaning and offers for him to come spend Christmas with Kristina and her. He smiles with joy and accepts. Kristina is thrilled to see her father and he comes baring the gifts that were under his own tree for her and for Molly (they are blood after all). Sam and Lucky show up with Luke and cookies and they all sit around drinking egg nog and talking... chatting it up. Luke says "Natasha, is there any brandy for this nog?" Everyone just cracks up because it is typical Luke behavior on a holiday. Maxie, Spinelli, Lulu, and Johnny spend Christmas Eve in their new apartment exchanging gifts and laughing at all of the old movies on television and their Christmas tree. It gets so happy Maxie and Lulu almost forget they are enemies...almost. They go outside when it starts snowing and have a huge snowball fight. When it gets late enough and cold enough they venture back inside to change... Maxie and Spinelli end up going to her room together to 'change' and Spinelli gets his Christmas wish ;-) Johnny and Lulu also go to bed for some holiday cheer. The Quartermaines spend Christmas in the living room eating pizza and reminiscing about Emily and Alan being gone and what Christmas was like with them. (There would then be a Quartermaine Christmas flashback special) Tracy then surprises everyone when she stands up and says forget the past this year is for the future and says she is going to forgive Luke. She then sets off to find him and make amends. Robin and Patrick spend Christmas in Robin's apartment with Matt, Anna, Robert, and of course Emma. Robert reveals he is sorry that he missed so much of Robin's life which Anna also admits it too, but hindsight is always 20/20. Little Emma smiles for the first time as her family showers her with love. Patrick cements the family bond with announcing that he wants Matt as his best man and has him put the angel on top of the tree. Finally, Nikolas and Nadine return from the midwest and spend Christmas Eve trotting around Windemere gazing at all the enormous pines decorated with beautiful lights. The snow falls heavier and they kiss underneath the biggest tree (Nadine has stopped her random weird babbling). When they return to the mansion Claudia shows up and offers Nikolas a small token of Christmas with a white dove ornament of thanks for previously saving her life. She then leaves with Nikolas thinking maybe he was wrong about her? Maybe. Thanks for reading everyone and Happy Holidays. I can't believe I forgot about Mac, that was dumb on my part. Sorry everyone. He would definitely be at Patrick and Robin's Christmas. Everything would have to go back to normal after this....so don't get too upset :-) Port Charles can't survive without the mob (unfortunately)...haha.

A: This is a very nice Christmas present for me! I loved it! I was so caught up in it that I forgot Mac too but he most definitely would be with the rest of the gang! A little happiness would make for the perfect Christmas!

Q: What is your favorite kind of ornament to put on your Christmas tree?
I love angels

A: I love all my ornament I selected each one to suit me.

Q: In your opinion what is the most **popular** Christmas associated icon?
Is it the cross? Santa Clause? Reindeer, Candy Canes, a Snowman, a Nutcracker, a Reef, Bells? An angel, a drum, what? It can be any of these things or ones I have not even mentioned here. Just curious as to what you think it is. I actually seem to see more sleighs (ironically without Santa in it) than anything else. I see them as ornaments, on lawns, on roofs, as posters, and even as those light thingies people shine like on the side of their house that shows a picture.
