Q: How do I restore vintage glass ornaments?
I recently received my grandmother's Christmas ornaments-from the 1940/50s. They are glass, with shiny metallic finishes, and a great deal of the finish is worn away, marked, or dull. Is there a way to fix that, or a special kind of paint I could use to brighten them up?
Also, they aren't valuable or particularly collectable, just of sentimental value.
A: Only on the inside- consider the silvering process commonly used in chemistry demos with a coke bottle. it involves a sugar solution, silver nitrate, and something else- can't remember offhand.
google silver nitrate glass bottle. it is a simple but super expensive process. Last time I knew, the silver nitrate was a couple hundred dollars for a smallish bottle. enough to do all the ornanments I suppose. This will only really work for the inside. it would take too long to do on outside (besides being monolayer of pure silver-rubs off).
Q: Where can I find glass mouth blown christmas ornaments?

Q: Looking for ideas & suggestions! Round Christmas colored glass balls,of 3 or 4 sizes... do you remember...?
When some of the baby boomers were young, people used to embelish and decorate your basic round glass christmas ornaments, you know, in red, green, silver, gold etc.Things like felt dressed characters or maybe with artsy things, paint, glitter?
Well I am looking for something fun and unusual, I have quite a few new boxes of them I want to do something with, but am just not having inspiration! INSPIRE ME PLEASE! Maybe even something Gramma made waayyy back when.
Would be great if we find something that is really pretty, and some that are for fun and or children etc.
Can't wait to read some replies!
And, by all means, Thank you to everyone who posts in response!
A: One year I took the tops off and hot glued a wooden 1 1/4 " ball for a head. I put two small black dots for eyes and pink cheeks, nothing else. Then I hot glued some spanish moss for hair and those gold craft wedding bands for halo's. Then I hot glued some ribbon at the back of the "neck" and made sure it hung right. Then I took some medium wide ribbon and tied it into a bow and hot glued it to the back for wings and to cover the hanger. They made the sweetest angels and I gave them out to friends.
Q: how many christmas ornaments ..can a glass blower make in 6 hrs ..?
360 blog

A: Well, 77 for sure....probably over 80!!!
I am dying to see what they look like.....I collect Christmas ornaments. I have over 30 small ornament trees (1 - 3 ft) that I get out for Christmas and my 7 ft. tree has over 1000 ornaments on it (it stays up all year!)
Q: I want to decorate glass ornaments as xmas gifts. What is best way to decorate and what glue do I need to use?
I want to use pretty wrapping paper and include some personalization like Christmas 2007 on them. I received a similar ornament a few years back that is glass, but it looks like she used wrapping paper to cover it and glued personal messages on the wrapping paper. If anyone has tried this, please give me some details and what type of glue is needed
A: You can use Elmer's Glue and add food coloring to it. Since it is glue, it won't wear off and you get a beautiful stained glass effect on the ornament especially if they are in front of a light.

A: Does your city have a Christmas store? My city has three *huge* Christmas shops and they would have something like that for sure. You could check something like that. Otherwise, why not look on ebay? I've had good luck with that site for other items.
Q: What kind of ornaments do you put on your Christmas tree?
I am going to have my first tree this year and have been collecting ornaments for a few weeks. I love the blown glass balls and mercury glass ornaments.
A: Well we normally put on ornaments that have been in the family, kind of like heirlooms. Maybe you could ask your family for some if they have any. If not, try to find ones that might have sentimental value in the future and of course ones that look pretty on the tree!
Q: What color Christmas ornaments should I get?
When I was growing up, each member of my family had a plain glass Christmas bulb with our names painted on them, we got them from Bronner's. Being the traditionalist that I am, I want to do the same thing for my family, now that my hubby and I have a little girl. We always had Christmas color ornaments (red, green, gold), when I was a kid, but I was thinking of getting different colors to go on our tree now. Should I keep with tradition, or vary it a bit? Our tree is a prelit one with multicolored lights, so either way would work.
A: There are so many shades of red, green, and gold and depending on the type of red, green or gold that you use, you'll be able to blend in lots of different colors. Myself? I don't go for strict color schemes.
The fact that you've got multi-colored lites makes it pretty easy to blend in different colors.
You can start with a few basic colors, and make the majority of your ornaments that color, but you'd still have room to add other ones.
I really enjoy gold, and colors that are related to it...So my gold ornaments range from a pale gold to a bright shimmery gold and I even veer into ornaments that have a copper tone to them. I even have some ornaments that are gold and orange.
I also use red, but I don't like bright candy cane reds. I prefer reds that range from a burgundy to a very rich sort of red and shades in between.
I dont' use a lot of green ornaments because I find they tend to blend into the Christmas tree too well and it's not easy to see them. That's because I have a green tree.
Because gold is the color that I use to tie every thing together, I use a lot of multi-colored ornaments consisting of gold and other shades that match or contrast nicely.
I avoid trendy themed trees, because there is the temptation to change it every couple of years. I say start off simply by purchasing simple inexpensive ball ornaments of whatever color you would like to use as a base color to tie in all of your other colors.
Then, every year add some ornaments that are a bit more special and unique. Go for quality, things you'll enjoy looking at year after year. It's more economical than replacing your ornaments every year.

Q: Christmas ornament making help..what design..?
i went to hobby lobby
and i got these plain round glass christmas ornaments to decorate

A: Get some like furry stuff that resembles snow and put it inside the ornament so it will look like snow. Then, write your name and do ornaments for every member of your family, You can paint around the name and put like snowflake stickers around it. Be creative. You can even put tiny bells inside so it will ring.

Q: What are the possible reasons for dreaming that I am chewing/eating glass?
For many years I have had dreams in which I will be eating glass. Around Christmas time, I would dream that I was eating those glass tree ornaments.
Does anyone have any insight as to what this might mean?
A: it might be that you have bruxism... grinding your teeth... you may be subconciously alluding this to being a dream
Q: I need help please, with a christmas ornament project?
I am trying to add a picture to a glass ornament. I want the picture to look smooth.
I need ideas (if anyone has any) on how to accomplish this.
I tried decoupage but the paper bunches up and looks a mess.
Any help is greatly appreciated.........
Happy Holidays!!!
I would like to have the picture on the outside ...I know you can buy them but I really wanted to try making it myself..
A: I just saw a clear glass ornament that had a colored picture inside that was printed on a transparency at Kinkos. She cut the picture out in the shape of a circle, rolled it up in a tight tube and inserted it into the hole, then it quickly unrolled by itself when inside. She then painted a snowflake or two and some colored dots on the outside of the ball. It looked very good. I can't find the picture now, but there are endless possibilities with this idea! Someone else said that you could print it on your own color printer too.
Q: Where can I find clear glass heart-shaped ornaments?
I'm looking for the clear ornaments that you can paint yourself by swirling paint inside, but I would prefer to have the heart-shaped ones rather than round. I've looked at Michael's, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, Ben Franklin, the Christmas Depot, Sunshine Discount Crafts, Oriental Trading Company. So far the only place I have found them was on eBay. Anyone have any other suggestions?
A: Do you have A.C. Moore near you? They might have them. Also check wedding supply and party stores.
