Q: What Digital scrapbooking software are you using and why?
I'm looking to buy and would love input from other scrapbookers doing digital work.

A: If you're a beginning, try using CropMom at http://www.cropmom.com. It's an online scrapbooking site, just perfect for someone learning to make digital scrapbook pages. Just upload your photos and use CropMom's graphics to create beautiful pages. There's no software or kits to buy. If you like what you've created, you can purchase the print-quality JPEG file of your layout for a small fee then print it at home or have it printed by a photo service. The graphics that are available at CropMom are some of the same designer graphics that are sold to the regular digital scrapbooking community, so it's high quality. If you're sure you want to invest the time and money into digital scrapbooking, the purchase Adobe Photoshop Elements or Corel Paint Shop Pro software. Either one will work well, and they work with the industry-standard digital scrapbooking kits. Both Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop Elements have a steep learning curve. Digital scrapbooking is not necessarily easy to learn to do. There are tutorials that can help. A word of caution: Some (but not all) software that bills itself as "digital scrapbooking software" actually has proprietary files, so you can't go out to ScrapArtist (http://www.scrapartist.com) or any of the other digital scrapbooking stores, and buy a kit and use it. So if you don't use CropMom and decide to buy software, make sure it can read and use transparent .png files, which are the standard file format used in digital scrapbook embellishments.

Q: Do I have to have Adobe Photoshop or other specialized software to do digital scrapbooking?
I just have what my digital camera and my PC came with.

A: No, you don't have to have Adobe Photoshop or any specialized software. Just go to CropMom (http://www.cropmom.com), register and log in. Then upload your photos to the My Photos page. Click Get Started, and you can start making digtial scrapbook pages right now. It's free to use CropMom. CropMom offers thousands of high-end digital scrapbook graphics for you to use in your pages. You can choose from a selection of standard digital scrapbook canvas sizes. You can add your own text. You can place, rotate and resize photos and scrapbook graphics to create your own work of art. CropMom lets you download the low-resolution JPEG file of your layout for free for sharing on the Web or for e-mailing to friends and family. You can purchase the high-resolution JPEG of your layout for a small fee for high-quality printing at home or by a photofinisher. Before you spend money to purchase graphics software that is expensive and difficult to learn how to use, try digital scrapbooking at CropMom first.

Q: How do I make Digital Scrapbooking pages like this?
http://staceycox.typepad.com/photos/digital_pages/index.html What programs do I need? Where do I start? Yes, I tried google and it wasn't much help.

A: i use scrapbook factory 4.0.

Q: How is digital scrapbooking different from traditional -by hand- scrapbooking?
And what products would I need to make the switch? (I have a computer, but that's it)

A: Digital scrapbooking is just that....digitally done with the use of a computer. Most people have scrapbooking software or Paint Shop Pro to do digital layouts. Many sites on the web are selling pre-packaged bundles to buy for cheap so all you have to do is upload your pictures. When it is complete, you simply print if out and paste it in an album like normal. Personally, I have tried both and like the 'by-hand' traditional way alot better. I like that 3-d dimensional feel rather than another piece of paper that I posted in an album.

Q: What is a good digital scrapbooking software package that works on a Mac?
Are there any good free online sites I could use by themselves or with a software package? What is a good way to print off the pages? In the long run, is it cheaper than buying those photo books on Snapfish/Shutterfly?

A: Go to CropMom at http://www.cropmom.com and create your own layouts there. CropMom is free to use. You can upload your photos, add text and choose from thousands of embellishments for your scrapbook pages. Once you've made 20 layouts, purchase them in high resolution from CropMom (you can buy a bundle of 20 layouts). Now, you can have them printed anywhere, such as Snapfish or Shutterfly or PhotoWorks. The beauty of creating the layouts at CropMom is that they're YOUR layouts, entirely personalized and customized the way you want them to be, as opposed to templates that are offered by the printing companies. CropMom does not print them, just lets you make the layouts. You can also print your layouts at home on your printer.

Q: How do you become a digital scrapbooking designer?
I'm quite experienced in the field, looking to design kits and sell them ?

A: Why don't you try asking Simple Scrapbooks, Making Memories, or Creating Keepsakes (or other scrapbook magazines) if they are interested in publishing your work? They often have calls for pages in the magazines. If you get to be a "name", your stuff will sell, I'm sure. Look at Heidi Swapp. Build a website too, so people can buy online. Make sure you stock it with a wide selection, as everyone has different tastes. For a start, advertise on scrapbook websites, use word of mouth (get people who like your designs to recommend you to others), and submit to the above magazines to get your name "out there". HTH! Good luck!

Q: Is there a UK online digital scrapbooking site which prints your finished scrapbook for you?
I have used photobox - photo books in the past but wanted something which looks more of a scrapbook. They do them in America but can't find any uk sites! Please help

A: One possibility is to make your online scrapbook pages at CropMom (http://www.cropmom.com), which sells the high-resolution JPEG files of your layouts. Then once you have the high resolution JPEG files, you can find a UK photofinisher that sells photo books. Each "layout" from CropMom would be one page in the book. So make all the layouts the same size so they'll fill up an entire page in the book. I'm fairly certain that My Publisher sells its photo books in the UK. If that's the case, you can create 8 by 10 inch landscape-sized layouts at CropMom, and they should work with the the My Publisher photo books.

Q: What are the best sites for digital scrapbooking?
I have Just started to get into it the last couple of days. Im having a blast. It also seems cheaper and much easier then going out and buying all the supplies needed to scrapbook. What are the best sire to make a book and then pay to have it made and shipped to you. Also, How much do they cost (if you know). I have searched and found so many, I want your opinions on which one is best!

A: Digital scrapbooking is lots of fun, and there's no mess! If you're just beginning, you might want to try CropMom at http://www.cropmom.com. CropMom is an online scrapbook Web site where you can upload your photos, edit them and add any of CropMom's graphics. There is no software to buy and no kits to buy. CrpoMom has lots of graphics to choose from, and you can purchase the print-quality JPEG files of your layouts for printing. If you already have digital scrapbooking software, you can find gorgeous kits at ScrapArtist (http://www.scrapartist.com). My two favorite places to have my layouts made into bound photo books are Snapfish (http://www.snapfish.com) and Shutterfly (http://www.shutterfly.com). Both make 8" by 8" and 12" by 12" photo books, and since I scrap "square" layouts, my layouts fit the full pages of these books perfectly. My books are always at least 20 pages, printed on both sides. Snapfish has a fabulous book with a glossy dust cover (using your layout, of course). Shutterfly offers a gorgeous padded-styled book, also using your layout on the cover. A 20-page, 8" by 8" book runs around $30, not including shipping. But if you look for coupon codes online (such for for free shipping, etc.) and if you purchase more than one copy of the same book, you can drive the price per book down to as low as $25. It's worth every penny, because your layouts are printed on archival quality paper in eye-popping color.

Q: Can someone explain to me the basics of digital scrapbooking?
I've never seen it done, and I don't really get the concept at all. Do you print out the pages after designing it on the computer?Do you need a special printer? Are there any sites online that offer it for free or do you always have to buy a kit?Do you add accessories (stickers, brads, etc.) after printing it?I am clueless, so just basic info would be appreciated.

A: I highly recommend visiting this site: http://spraguelab.squarespace.com/ or: jessicasprague.com Jessica Sprague is the guru of all things in digital scraping. I also recommend getting her book "Computer Tricks for Scrapbookers" to get a handle on the different ways to use Photoshop. As for your other questions: yes, you can print out the pages after you have created them. It is recommended that you have a photo quality printer. If you are scrapping 12x12 pages, then you will need to get a large size printer that can print that size (Epson makes a great one). Or you can upload your page to a photo processing site (I use Costco) and have them printed just like a large photo. There are many sites to download free kits: www.twopeasinabucket.com www.digitaldesigns.com are two of my favorites. I am a "hybrid" scrapper. That means that I make some of my page using the digital kits/Photoshop method and then add "real" embellishments like chipboard, ribbon, etc. once I have my page printed out. I like the dimensional aspect of adding my embellishments- and since I shop so much, I kind of have to use them =). Again, I really recommend looking up Jessica Sprague's sites to get a better idea. She is totally awesome and answered all questions I ever had and some I hadn't even thought of. She also offers an "Up and Running with Photoshop" class online that guides students through the basics of creating a page. Hope this helps.

Q: How do you create your own background paper and embellishments for digital scrapbooking?
I know how to use already made digi paper and embellishments but I would like to know how to create my own designs for background paper, embellishments, ribbon, etc. Thanks in advance and happy crafting!

A: Well, you would use some kind of graphics program. It can be as simple as Word, and as complicated as Adobe. I like to use pictures I have taken as backgrounds. I import them into the page, and then use the watermark function to make them transparent. I play with the transparency and brightness til it looks like what I want. I can then overlap more pictures with no transparency, or various other graphics. Really, at that point, its all about you using a program you are familiar enough with to create the effects you wish.

Q: Anyone have experience with Digital scrapbooking?
Any pointers would be nice. I'm expecially interesting in learning how to make background papers. Is photoshop really the best software to use for this, or is there is cheaper option? And does anyone know were I can get 'freeware' digital scrapbooking elements?

A: You can find a lot of people sho would love to have you join them on Yahoo Groups - Digital scrapbooking: http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=Digital+scrapbooking&submit=Search
